Antique Crucifix - Bronze, Enamel - 1800-1850

Antique Russian-Orthodox icon cross / travel cross, bronze with two-tone enamel – 19th century.

This type of cross was used in Imperial Russia as a home altar or as a travel cross. The object is traditionally cast in bronze and refined with two-tone champlevé enamel in the classical colors deep blue and green. The cross shows the crucified Christ with above him two mourning angels and the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove. At Christ's feet lies the skull of Adam on Golgotha. The details of the casting are well preserved and the enamel gives the object a wonderful depth and contrast.

Weight 111 grams, 17 cm high and 10 cm wide.
