« The Violinist », perhaps the wife of Alphonse Stengelin (1853-1938), a French painter who is the most Dutch of the French painters. The town of Katwijk gave its name to a street on March 13, 1907, the date when he decided to sign his works « Stengelin van Katwijk ». He is present in many museums including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
This painting carries a dedication on the back addressed to his daughter Isabelle.
The quality of this very impressionistic painting and its provenance (family) make it a major work of the artist.
