Description from the seller
Rare neoclassical candelabrum in Old Sheffield Plate - Height 28 cm / 992 g - Silvio Palmerio (Turin)
Fascinating and rare antique candelabrum in Neoclassical style, dating from the 19th century.
The piece is made in Old Sheffield Plate (fine silver plating on a copper core), a technique typical of the great English manufacture of the Georgian III / Regency period. The candlestick is distinguished by its slender, elegant lines: it features a central balustrade shaft finely tapered, interspersed with fittings and finished with a solid circular base, entirely decorated with raised gadrooned motifs.
The lot comes with its historical certificate of origin from the prestigious Silvio Palmerio jewelry and silversmith shop of Turin, which attests to its provenance and collaboration with the well-known London firm "Antique Silver (Export) Ltd. (Northampton Square, London)".
The object presents with a magnificent and intense original dark patina due to time (natural silver oxidation), which underscores its authenticity and historical charm. Under the patina, a suggestive era wear on the plating emerges (bleeding effect), revealing the copper core along the base edges and on the reliefs. A highly sought-after detail in true ancient Sheffield.
