DESK CLOCK JAEGER-LECOULTRE "8 DAYS" (SWITZERLAND, c. 1960s): We present at auction a magnificent high‑horology desk piece from the prestigious Swiss manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. This clock is a superb example of 1960s Mid‑Century Modern design, blending minimalist geometric aesthetics with exceptional mechanical engineering.
The case, with its distinctive cylindrical drum profile, is forged in solid brass and features an elegant brushed finish broken only by slender vertical grooves. The dial is a true visual delight: light‑toned background, segmented by fine cross‑lines (sector pattern) and adorned with applied gold rectangular indices. At the 3 o’clock position lies a calendar window, an unusual and highly practical complication for this type of piece.
At the 6 o’clock position, the dial proudly bears the "8" logo, indicating that inside beats a manually wound mechanical caliber with an impressive 8‑day power reserve. The back reveals the adjusting and winding crowns, highlighting blued steel screws, a hallmark of traditional haute horlogerie.
Condition Report (Expert Review)
The piece is in an aesthetically and mechanically highly attractive state:
Case and Dial: The brass retains its original brushed finish, showing a light and beautiful natural patina along with very slight superficial marks typical of its 60 years of history (no serious dents or dings). The dial is clean and sharp. The protective crystal is in perfect condition.
Mechanics: The eight‑day mechanical movement runs correctly, as do the time‑adjustment mechanisms on the reverse. (Expert note: Being a vintage watch, the date of its last maintenance service is unknown; a check is recommended if daily continuous chronometric precision is desired).
(Prospective bidders are urged to view the gallery photographs in detail, as they form an essential part of the piece’s expert description).
Shipping
The item will be carefully protected and securely packaged, with insured shipping and an international tracking number.
A rare opportunity for interior designers, collectors, and lovers of "La Grande Maison" to acquire an iconic desk clock that is mechanically fascinating! Wishing good luck to all bidders!
