Antique Holy water font (2) - 1800-1850

Richly decorated antique holy-water vessel, in the religious tradition known as a situla. This type of copper bucket was historically used by the clergy during liturgical ceremonies and church rituals to carry holy water. The body of the vessel is made of heavy, spun yellow copper and rests firmly on a profiled round foot. The piece immediately stands out due to the detailed, relief-carved bands with lavish acanthus leaves and classical geometric motifs on the underside of the chalice.

The vessel comes with the original antique bronze holy-water sprayer (hissop), dating from the 17th or 18th century.
This makes it a unique collectible.
