Description from the seller
Clemens Briels, born in Son in 1946, is a highly sought-after artist both at home and abroad. His artworks are included in various renowned art collections and he was the first Dutch artist elected as “Official Olympic Artist” for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Behind Clemens Briels' artworks lies always a story; his works are small anecdotes from a counter-society. Briels developed his own style, ANTIPODISM: he envisions rather the opposite of the stereotype, the learned. The viewer is confronted with another, fantastical view of everyday things and is often surprised as a result.
Briels envisions experiences he has gained in the Orient, the Caribbean and North- and South America. In addition, traditional Central- and South American music is an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. The Cuban son, mambo, merengue and the souk, the musical tones poured with a light erotic sauce, compel him to create intriguing paintings.
Clemens Briels' artworks are never bound to time and reflect universal themes, cosmopolitan imaginations of daily life. Briels translates his experiences in his own way, in his own unique fantasy world. Color is the tool, the story is his message. The artist stimulates the viewer's imagination by showing different images than we are supposed to see. Because we are conditioned by stereotypes and not by imaginative interpretations of the surrounding things and events, the viewer is confronted with surprises.
Dimensions with frame: 62 x 56 cm
Dimensions without frame: 33 x 30 cm
Viewing is of course possible. In addition we have our own in-house picture framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore we use restorers from the industry association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, of course we would be happy to hear from you.
