Description from the seller

Viking sword with ornamented bronze guard and pommel
9th-11th century A.D.

A Viking iron sword with a long straight blade tapering gradually to a pointed tip. The grip is narrow, widening slightly towards the guard. The hilt is fitted with an ornamented bronze guard, decorated with incised interlaced scrollwork. The bronze pommel has a broad decorated base plate with matching incised ornament and a lobed upper knop formed of rounded segments.

The sword is in excavated condition, with age-related surface wear, corrosion, encrustation, and minor losses, yet retaining a clear and impressive weapon form.

An excellent Viking weapon with richly ornamented bronze hilt fittings, ideal for collectors of Norse antiquities, early medieval arms, or archaeological ironwork.
