Offered here in an exceptionally well-preserved condition, this superb enameled cast-iron waffle iron comes with its rare original cooking stand, also enameled cast iron.
Manufactured around 1965 by the Saint-Trond foundry (Sint-Truiden, Belgium), it perfectly illustrates the know-how of Belgian enameled-iron manufacturers in the post-war era.

Its elegant sage green finish, paired with a blue-grey enamel interior, gives it a typically Mid-Century aesthetic, now highly sought after by collectors and vintage design enthusiasts.

The long chrome-plated steel handles show a light patina and some signs of use, with no impact on their strength or on the overall perfect functioning of the set. The circular stand, fitted with three feet, provides excellent stability on a gas burner and bears the FE monogram (Fonte Émaillée), a symbol used by the manufacturer.

The enamel retains a very handsome shine, with remarkable even coloration. The hinges are perfectly functional and the plates close precisely, ensuring even waffle cooking.

-The Saint-Trond manufacture

The Saint-Trond manufacture (Sint-Truiden), located in Belgium, was active for much of the 20th century and developed an enameled-iron production aimed at the European domestic market. It stood out especially in making waffle irons, cast-iron pots, baking dishes and robust culinary accessories, renowned for their foundry quality and deep-colored enamels.

Like prestigious manufacturers such as Le Creuset or Cousances, Saint-Trond favored thick cast iron offering excellent thermal inertia, paired with particularly durable enamels. The brand was also known for original designs, often bolder in form and color than those of its rivals.

Production gradually ceased in the late 1970s, making these pieces relatively rare today. Complete models, preserved with their original cooking stand as in this example, have become particularly sought after by collectors of Belgian enameled iron and vintage culinary objets d'art.

This waffle iron is thus a remarkable testament to Belgian industrial heritage and European artisanal know-how of the 1960s. Its timeless design, build quality and excellent condition make it a piece that is as decorative as it is functional, destined to endure for many more generations.
