Description from the seller
Old and rare bicycle, from the brand "Dechavanne-Gougaud", built in Roanne (France), in 1925. The bicycle is in good condition, considering it is over 100 years old. It is functioning normally and its rod-operated brakes are seizing at the front and rear. This exceptional French collection bicycle is equipped with wooden grips and a 3-speed Sturmey-Archer hub, globally renowned for its quality, robustness and reliability.
Attention: The bicycle will be dismantled to be shipped properly.
This antique bicycle comes with the following accessories:
- Carbide headlight from the Birma brand, made in the United Kingdom, from the early 1920s, in good condition and still with the original concave glass (not tested);
- Bicycle Tax plate, from 1925;
- Dark brown leather saddle (the coil springs are still original and the leather is still in very good condition);
- Beautiful front ornament, featuring the image of a winged woman;
- French amulet coin, from 1923, fixed to the mudguard;
- Leather tool bag with 5 tools.
Dechavanne-Gougaud bicycles are extremely rare on the international market and are practically unknown outside specialized collectors’ circles. The scarcity of surviving examples makes this piece particularly interesting for private collections, museums, decoration of historic spaces, or participation in classic cycling events.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a high-quality French bicycle representative of early 20th-century velocipede industry, preserving its original identity and a high historical and collectible value.
An unusual piece, difficult to find and worthy of any collection of antique bicycles.
Please see the attached photos to verify the overall condition. The photos are part of the description.
