Description from the seller
An antique Caucasian Moghan rug (South-East Caucasus).
A hand-knotted rug by the Shahsavan nomads from this region, in gallery-format.
Beautiful natural vegetable-dyed colors.
The blue field is featured with seven octagonal medallions with different field colors and motifs. In the center of the medallions are cross-shaped flowers with side branches and diagonal crosses.
The blue field is very densely and intricately decorated with various swastikas, flowers and rosettes. The light brown main border is decorated with arrow motifs, rosettes and small cross-shaped flowers, flanked by two light-colored secondary borders with geometric flowers and curved tendrils.
Period: circa 1880.
Dimensions: approx. 3.13 x 1.11 meters (approx. 10.4 x 3.8 feet).
Material: Wool on wool with beautiful natural colors.
Condition: Uneven pile with low spots and wear (see photos).
The octagon is split at the bottom, reduced in size, and then sewn back together.
The ends have been shortened and then secured.
Both edges show signs of age and use (see photos).
Overall impression: good and acceptable.
An interesting and desirable collector's item.
