Description from the seller
The object shown in the image is an antique cigarette holder in silver and niello, probably of Russian or Caucasian origin. The intense black contrast on the silver background is obtained through niello, a dark metallic alloy composed of sulfur, copper, silver and lead, melted into the incised grooves of the metal.
It features a dense geometric motif of a four-leaf clover or stylized floral design, enclosed in a checkerboard border. This type of symmetrical, repetitive decoration is characteristic of Veliky Ustyug production in Russia or of the renowned Caucasian workshops (such as Kubachi), famous between the late 19th century and the early 20th.
The style suggests a period between the late 1800s and the early 1900s (late Imperial Russian period). The stamps inside this object are Russian imperial marks, which allow dating it with extreme precision to the end of the 19th century. In conclusion it is an authentic cigarette holder in silver and niello from the era of Tsar Nicholas II, made in 1834. Interior vermeil silver.
Stamps and the silver hallmark on both faces of the tobacco case are clearly visible. The lot will be properly packed and shipped with contracted couriers and with online tracking.
