An exceptional early 20th-century German compound microscope by the renowned scientific instrument maker R. Winkel, Göttingen, featuring original brass construction with a heavy black enameled cast-iron horseshoe base.
This highly collectible instrument is particularly interesting due to its original Carl Zeiss Jena revolving nosepiece, illustrating the close historical relationship between the two legendary German optical manufacturers shortly before Zeiss became the majority shareholder of R. Winkel in 1911.
The microscope retains its beautiful combination of lacquered brass, polished nickel-plated fittings and original black enamel, giving it outstanding display appeal while remaining a fully functional scientific instrument.
