Description from the seller
Antique Silver Filigree Hair Comb – Late 19th / Early 20th Century
A refined and highly decorative antique hair comb crafted in delicate silver filigree, dating to the late 19th to early 20th century. Measuring approximately 12 cm in length and 5.5 cm in width, this elegant piece weighs around 13 grams and remains in very good condition.
The upper section is formed as a stylised butterfly or floral motif, entirely composed of intricate hand-worked filigree. This traditional technique involves twisting and soldering extremely fine silver wires into elaborate openwork patterns, creating a lace-like effect of remarkable lightness and sophistication. Each scroll and spiral is individually shaped, demonstrating a high level of craftsmanship typical of skilled European silversmiths.
Filigree work has a long tradition across Europe, particularly in regions such as France, Italy, and Portugal, and was especially popular during the Belle Époque and Art Nouveau periods, when naturalistic and flowing forms were highly sought after.
The comb mount is likely later or reinforced, providing both stability and functionality while preserving the delicacy of the decorative top.
Acquired at a French market, this piece carries the charm of continental craftsmanship and timeless elegance.
A perfect accessory for a bride – an authentic “something old” – or a fine addition to a collection of antique silver or hair ornaments.
“wedding / bridal accessory”
handmade filigree craftsmanship in very good condition, almost excellent.

Very good overall condition with minor signs of age appropriate to its period.
