Platter - Earthenware - Swatow - Qilin - (32cm)

A unique specimen of a Swatow dish dating back to the Ming Dynasty period (1368-1644).

The plate is hand-painted in underglaze blue featuring a mythical creature; a Qilin (a mythical deer-dragon-like being) is a very beloved and traditional Chinese motif.

Oven sand (Grit/Sand adhering): You can see along the edge of the stand ring and partly on the bottom grains of sand and impurities adhered. This is the key authenticity feature of Swatow ware. The plates were placed directly on a bed of coarse sand during firing to prevent sticking.
