Two-piece handmade wooden bow and drill set from the early 20th century, in good condition, handcrafted by carpenters with mortise and tenon joints and comprising a suspended counterweight bow drill and a cross-grip bow drill made of hardwood with a warm patina.
Description from the seller
Both sets of antique wooden bow drills are handcrafted by carpenters using mortise and tenon joints.
The two sets have distinct functions: the suspended counterweight bow drill relies on a weighted wooden base for balance and is used for fine drilling of wood carvings and small wooden objects; the cross-grip bow drill relies on two-hand gripping for power and is suitable for drilling large pieces of wood such as beams, tables, chairs, and farm tools. The entire set is made of hardwood and has developed a warm, aged patina over the years. The wear marks on the bow and handle naturally conform to the hand's position, and it is bound with original hemp rope and old cotton cloth straps. The mortise and tenon structure is sturdy and without cracks or loosening.
The overall condition is excellent. The solid wood body has no large, continuous cracks or insect holes; the matching ropes are complete and unbroken; the metal drill bits are not bent or deformed; and the natural wear and patina of years of use are evident.
