This concerns a particularly prototype specimen of the Leica Ultravid 8×50, a model known for its exceptional optical quality, high light transmission and robust construction. The Ultravid series belongs to the top tier of Leica’s binoculars and is known for its sharp, high-contrast image and excellent performance in low light.

What makes this specimen unique is that it is a prototype model. For such specimens Leica removes the serial number before the product leaves the factory. This happens by removing or polishing away the number to prevent a test or development model from being registered as an official serial model in the Leica administration. The absence of a serial number is therefore a known feature of Leica prototypes and demonstration specimens (see last photo).

For collectors and Leica enthusiasts this is a rare item, because prototypes exist only in very small quantities and rarely appear on the market.
