Rug - 178 cm - 131 cm - Carpet from Turkey

Islamic prayer carpet from Turkey, ca. approximately 1920-1960, imported to the EU in the 2nd half of the 20th century, with origins possibly in Persia. Features the Tree of Life and Vase, highly-detailed, which sprouts from an ornamental vase at the base. In textile art, this symbolizes paradise, abundance and eternal life. The upper corners outside the arch feature a contrasting bluish-green floral pattern, with the entire piece framed by multiple intricate borders filled with stylized flowers, scrolling vines, and repeating palm / cypress motif. Structurally, the directional nature of the arch allows the worshipper to align the rug toward Mecca during daily prayers.

The overall condition is good, with missing tassels along the border of the base (see photos).
