Decorative mantel clock with knight figure – France – Historicism / Neobarock – approx. 1850–1900
Description
Magnificent, richly decorated mantel clock made of gilded metal cast (probably spelter), crafted in the style of Historicism. The clock features a meticulously worked knight figure in armor, seated on a rocky elevation and holding a spear. The spear has been refinished and is likely not original.
The base is ornamented with floral and Baroque motifs, typical for French mantel clocks of the late 19th century. The back reveals the mechanical movement. The function has not been tested; the clock is offered as purely decorative.
