Beautifully substantial pair of antique bronze/brass ornaments – Louis XV / Baroque / Rococo – c. 1900
A particularly attractive and heavily crafted pair of antique ornaments (appliques), expertly cast from high-quality solid bronze or brass. This exclusive set exudes the rich elegance of the French Louis XV, Baroque, and Rococo styles and makes a splendid addition for collectors, restorers, and lovers of antique decor.
The lot comprises:
* A monumental three-dimensional putto/Cupid (17 cm tall), rendered in a lively Baroque pose. This ornament was originally intended as exclusive furniture hardware or as the crowning detail of an antique pendulum clock, mirror, or other luxurious interior piece.
* A refined mascaron wall ornament with a central, beautifully modeled cherub face, surrounded by an intricately worked rocaille surround with floral motifs and featuring a built-in hanging eye.
With a total weight of no less than 982 grams, this is an exceptionally heavy and solid high-quality pair. Both ornaments possess a gorgeous authentic patina that further emphasizes the depth and refinement of the casting.
