Antique brass candelabrum dating to 1850–1900 from France, featuring a cherub figure in latón plateado with a sculpted base and acanthus-decorated stem, measuring 26 cm high, 15 cm wide and 15 cm deep, in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
It is a nineteenth-century candelabrum that concentrates all that intimate, delicate theatricality that characterizes pieces with a cherub figure. Here the silvered brass is not just a material: it is a language. Its soft, time-touched shine surrounds the childlike figure in a nearly ceremonial light, as if the metal wished to imitate the purity traditionally attributed to these winged beings.
The cherub, shaped with grace and proportion, rises atop a decorative sphere that functions as a small symbolic world. The posture is serene, almost playful, with that balance between innocence and solemnity that much pleased decorative imagery of the XIXth century. The wings, small and well defined, add dynamism; the folds of the cloth covering him give texture and movement; the expression on the face, sweet and contained, completes the scene with an air of classical tenderness.
Above the figure rises the fluted candleholder, opening in a cup shape and catching the light with elegance. It is a finial that engages with the lower body without competing with it, maintaining the visual hierarchy centered on the cherub. The base, rich in scrolls and stylized leaves, anchors the piece firmly and brings that Baroque touch that the nineteenth century reinterpreted with freedom.
Together, it is a candelabrum that combines sculpture, symbolism and function, perfect for interiors seeking a romantic, historic accent or simply one full of character. Its presence is warm, narrative, and the silvered brass gives it a discreet luminosity that enhances every relief.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
