Ancient Egyptian Late Period Terracotta ring with a turquoise-green glaze, dating to c. 664–332 BC, from a private collection and acquired in 2025 from Germany, originally belonging to a former owner who acquired it via an antique market.
Description from the seller
Small ancient Egyptian ring made of turquoise-blue faience. The ring hoop is complete and displays the slightly tapering form characteristic of examples from the Late Period. The oval bezel is decorated with an abstract motif composed of two recessed areas separated by raised ridges. The design appears ornamental rather than representational and belongs to the simple decorative motifs commonly found on faience amuletic rings of this period.
The decoration was most likely created either by modelling the soft faience before firing or by incising the surface while the material was still unfired, both well-attested manufacturing techniques for Egyptian faience jewellery. No clearly identifiable hieroglyphic inscription or symbol is visible.
The surface retains its characteristic turquoise-green glaze with minor mineral encrustations and age-related wear, giving the piece an attractive archaeological appearance.
Condition: Complete ring. Minor surface wear and encrustations consistent with age. No breaks or restorations.
Date: Late Period, c. 664–332 BC.
Provenance: Formerly in the Madeleine & Erich Dammann Collection, Germany. Acquired during the owners' extensive travels between 1950 and 1970. Documented in Germany by 1970 and subsequently retained in continuous family ownership.
