Jardin au printemps is an oil on canvas landscape by École espagnole (XX), Spain, unsigned, in acceptable condition, 52 × 60 cm, with frame, sold by Galería, dating from 1950–1960.
Description from the seller
An oil painting on canvas, attributed to the Spanish late-Post-Impressionist school of the 20th century, depicting a gardened landscape resolved with great freedom of brushwork and a particularly fresh and luminous chromatic sensibility. The composition gathers a corner of lush vegetation, speckled with flowers and small touches of color, in an spontaneous and vibrant vision of nature.
The work stands out for its construction based on loose, fragmented, dynamic brushstrokes, a device that threads the entire pictorial surface and links to the language inherited from Post-Impressionism. More than a meticulous description of the subject, the author seeks to convey the atmosphere of the place, the vibration of light, and the changing richness of the landscape. This intention is evident in the way trees, shrubs, ground, and sunlit clearings are resolved through agile, layered color patches, yielding a result of great visual freshness.
From a technical point of view, the painting shows a spontaneous approach, where capturing the overall impression takes precedence over linear detail. The palette, dominated by greens, light ochres, whites, and yellows, is enlivened by small reddish and violaceous notes that enrich the whole and add depth. The space appears articulated by planes of vegetation and vertical trunks that organize the scene without diminishing naturalness.
This is a decorative work with a pleasant presence, very representative of that 20th‑century Spanish painting interested in intimate landscape, light, and a sensitive interpretation of the natural surroundings. Its plastic, direct, and luminous language makes it an ideal piece for both private collections and interiors with a taste for landscape painting. The frame is included as a gift.
