Description from the seller
Georgian box in yew wood and ebony – England, late 18th / early 19th century (1780–1810)
Elegant and refined English table box from the Georgian era, made between the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century (circa 1780–1810). The piece is entirely crafted in precious solid yew wood, one of the timbers most valued by English cabinetmaking of the period for its warm amber color and spectacular natural figuring, made even more evocative by the presence of the characteristic burr knots.
The elongated octagonal shape, harmonious and balanced, is embellished with refined ebony inlays that delineate its profile with great elegance, while the small central knob, also in ebony, completes a composition of notable quality.
By type and size, this box was meant to house small precious objects, documents, letters, or tea, representing a refined adornment for the rooms of British upper middle class and aristocracy of the Georgian era.
The interior, also in solid wood, preserves all the charm of the original workmanship, while the exterior displays a splendid antique patina that enhances the grain of the yew. The condition is very good and consistent with the object's age; there are only light signs of wear and use that attest to its authenticity without compromising its elegance.
Our interior designer/architect recommends placing it on a Georgian desk, an English bookshelf, a coffee table, or an entry console, where it can be used both as a refined container and as a precious decorative element.
Dimensions:
Length: 19.5 cm
Width: 12.5 cm
Height: 9 cm
The photographs are an integral part of the description.
Guaranteed careful packing entrusted to professionals in the field.
