Set of two porcelain birds by Bing & Grøndahl, models 1607 and 1888, designed by Carl Mortensen and Niels Nielsen, Denmark, circa 1950–1960, in excellent vintage condition.

Bing & Grøndahl – Set of 2 porcelain sparrows – designers Niels Nielsen – Carl Mortensen - Denmark – ca. 1950-1960
This beautiful set of two vintage porcelain sparrows is produced by the renowned Danish porcelain manufacturer Bing & Grøndahl and forms a splendid example of the refined Scandinavian design from the mid-twentieth century.
The figurines are executed in high-quality underglaze-painted porcelain and are characterized by an exceptionally lifelike modeling. The subtle color transitions, the soft glaze sheen and the refined details give both birds a lively and characterful appearance.
The set consists of two different models that complement each other beautifully:
* Model 1607 – Large singing sparrow, produced around 1950-1960 and designed by Carl Mortensen
* Model 1888 – Sparrow on rock, designed by Niels Nielsen produced with underglaze around the 1950s-1960s from the ‘Fincke series’
Bing & Grøndahl was worldwide known for its lifelike animal figurines. Thanks to the craftsmanship of its designers and painters, these figurines still belong to the most beloved collectibles within Danish porcelain.
Both figurines bear on the underside the green Bing & Grøndahl mark with the characteristic three towers, inscribed with “Made in Denmark” and the original model numbers.
