Antique 6-piece nesting weights in bronze/ brass, Neurenberg style, estimated period 1850–1900.
Description from the seller
Antique Bronze/Bronze Plummet Weight (Arrow Orientation) – 6-piece – Nuremberg Style – 18th/19th Century
For auction: a beautiful and characterful antique plummet weight (also known as a plummet weight or 'pile de Nuremberg'), made from heavy-quality bronze or brass. This type of compact weighing instrument was historically used by traders, apothecaries, and coin-weighers to securely transport and use precision weights.
This specimen consists of the main weight (the outer 'cup' with a flap lid and robust closure) and in addition contains 5 inter-fitting, conical inner caps (plummet weights). In total the set is thus 6-piece.
The object is in an honest, unpolished condition with a splendid dark, authentic aged patina that testifies to decades of history and use. Both the hinge and the characteristic lid closure function properly.
A wonderful collectible for enthusiasts of antique scientific instruments, standard weights, or early copper and bronze alloys.
