The bone structure is robust and stocky, with short, heavy metatarsals and toes, and blunt, rounded claws. These features are perfectly adapted to Psittacosaurus’s quadrupedal walking and herbivorous lifestyle—the sturdy hind limbs supported a solid body, while the blunt claws were better suited for digging up plant roots than for hunting or fast running.
As one of the most representative dinosaur fossils found in China and East Asia, Psittacosaurus serves as a key evolutionary link between early ceratopsians and later large-bodied forms (such as Triceratops).
