Grundig Satellit 3400 – Very good condition – visually and technically

For sale is a Grundig Satellit 3400 world receiver from an estate. The device is in an exceptionally well-kept and very good visual condition for its age of almost 50 years. The housing shows only minimal age-related signs of use; larger scratches or damage are not present. Also the telescopic antenna is straight, intact, and in very good condition.

I, a layperson, have performed a functional test on the radio. In FM operation, the device receives and plays perfectly. The station search function works without problems. All rotary controls, switches, and dial drives operate smoothly and correctly. The scales can be moved cleanly. The scale illumination as well as the display illumination also work. The tone control with bass and treble controls as well as the switchable tweeter respond as expected during the tests. Only the digital clock display is not functioning.

I could not meaningfully test the longwave and shortwave reception ranges. In Germany today there is hardly any regular broadcasting in these frequency ranges, so testing under everyday conditions is only possible to a limited extent. Since I am not an expert for historical world receivers and do not have the corresponding measuring equipment, the other reception ranges and all special functions were not fully tested. For this reason I cannot make a statement about the full functionality of all operating modes and I am selling the unit according to the description.

The Grundig Satellit 3400 was built as the top model of the Satellit series between 1978 and 1982 and remains one of the most sought-after world receivers from Grundig. It features a double superheterodyne receiver, a digital frequency display with 1 kHz resolution, reception for FM, longwave, mediumwave and numerous shortwave bands, SSB reception (USB/LSB) with BFO, antenna trimmer, noise limiter (ANL), automatic gain control (AGC), FM-AFC, six preset FM stations, signal strength meter (S-Meter), separate bass and treble control as well as a switchable tweeter for a particularly balanced sound.
