Description from the seller
An exceptionally charming Viennese bronze from the late 19th or early 20th century, in the form of a finely worked table bell with a sculpted monkey perched on a realistically designed branch.
INFO: Brand - “protected” - see detail photos!
The figure captivates with its lively modeling and the masterful cold-paint finish typical of Viennese bronzes. Notably, the differentiated surface treatment stands out: fine chiseling in the fur, combined with nuanced color tones in warm brown and red hues, giving the depiction remarkable depth and expressiveness.
The monkey – a classic motif of Viennese small bronzes – subtly symbolizes playfulness, curiosity, and at times also a reflection of human traits. In combination with the functional form of the table bell, it becomes an object of special appeal that elegantly unites art and everyday life.
The age-related patina as well as slight wear to the polychromy should be understood as authentic testimonies of the time and underscore the originality of this piece.
A decorative and at the same time collectible object that impressively reflects the high craftsmanship of Viennese bronze art around 1900.
