Description from the seller
Pair of Large Antique Hand-Carved Wooden Springerle Cookie Moulds – Folk Art – c.1900
A charming pair of large antique hand-carved wooden Springerle cookie moulds, dating to around 1900. Both are carved from hardwood and display traditional European folk-art craftsmanship, with finely detailed figures in period costume and a warm natural patina developed through age and use.
The first mould features twelve carved figures and bears the initials “G.V.” carved into the side, likely indicating an early owner or maker. The reverse retains an old metal hanging loop.
The second mould features two larger carved figures and also retains an old metal hanging loop to the reverse. It has an old period repair with metal fasteners securing an age-related split, now part of the object’s history.
Dimensions:
12-figure mould: 60 × 11 cm
2-figure mould: 60 × 17 cm
Good antique condition with age-related wear, natural shrinkage cracks, surface scratches, old inactive woodworm traces and warm patina. The larger two-figure mould has an old period repair with metal fasteners. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
