This anonymous artist created at least six well-known Songye masks that share the same monumental sculptural presence and the great refinement of execution of the striations. The main characteristics of this sculptor are the high graphical quality of his work, with cleanly defined striations and a white surface rhythmically punctuated by black patches at the level of the half-closed eyes and the bird’s crest.
