Nine carved bone puzzle pieces from 19th‑century China, dating to the Qing Dynasty (c. 1850–1900), featuring interlocking figures including caparisoned elephants and mounted horsemen, with contrasting natural and stained red bone and overall fair antique condition.
Description from the seller
An exceptionally well-preserved group of nine 19th-century Chinese carved bone puzzle pieces, displaying the remarkable craftsmanship associated with traditional Chinese export carving. The lot comprises finely detailed figures including caparisoned elephants, mounted horsemen and standing court figures, each intricately carved with pierced decoration and designed to interlock as part of a larger puzzle or table ornament. The contrasting natural and stained red elements create a particularly attractive and visually striking display. Such complete groups are becoming increasingly difficult to source, especially with this level of crisp carving and decorative detail. A highly decorative and collectible ensemble that appeals equally to collectors of Chinese export art, carved bone work, antique games and puzzles, and cabinet curiosities. Presented in good antique condition with age-related wear consistent with the 19th century, further enhancing their authenticity and charm.
