Description from the seller

The Baldax Baldaxette I is a German camera produced by Balda in the postwar years, belonging to a series of compact and folding cameras that were very widespread in Europe between the 1940s and 1950s. This model stands out for its elegant and classic design, with a metal frame, faux leather covering, and the characteristic foldable bellows that allowed the camera to be made more compact during transport.

The Baldaxette I generally used medium format film and offered entirely manual operation, requiring the photographer to directly control shutter speeds, aperture, and focusing. Like many cameras of the era, it was designed for slow, thoughtful photography, where every shot was prepared with care.

The lenses mounted on these machines could vary depending on configuration, but were often appreciated for their soft, very characteristic rendering, typical of European vintage photography. Also aesthetically, the Baldaxette I still today preserves a strong retro charm, thanks to the mechanical finishes and the folding system that immediately recalls the great classic cameras of the twentieth century.
