Description from the seller

A beautiful 21-piece vintage porcelain coffee service part-set by the renowned brand Blue Danube from Japan, featuring the timeless and elegant Blue Onion pattern, also known as Zwiebelmuster.

This lot consists of a complete mocha and espresso service for 8 people, beautifully complemented by a spectacular, large openwork lattice display platter.

Large Openwork Lattice Platter 1951–1976 — 1 pc. An impressive, early-period centerpiece with intricate openwork borders. It has 26 cm in diameter.

Mocha / Espresso Cups, Demitasse — 8 pcs. Classical round form with a smooth rim and distinctive twisted handles, 7 cm in diameter and 5 cm tall.

Mocha Saucers — 8 pcs. Round shape with a smooth rim, perfectly matching the cups, 11 cm in diameter.

Lidded Sugar Bowl — 1 pc. Rounded shape, the lid is adorned with a delicate rosebud finial.

Creamer — 1 pc. Graceful pouring lip and twisted handle.

Leaf-Shaped Miniature Dishes — 2 pcs. Rare miniature serving items with small cast feet and stem handles. Size including the handle is 14.5 x 10 cm.

Important Note on Makers Marks:
The Large Lattice Platter features the highly desirable, early original banner or ribbon backstamp with the text "REG. U.S. PAT. OFF.", which strictly dates its production to the earliest period of 1951–1976. This makes the centerpiece platter an even rarer collector's item within this beautiful set.

The remaining 20 pieces - coffee cups, saucers, sugar bowl, creamer, and leaf dishes bear the standard late-period rectangular trademark stamp with the Registered trademark sign, dating them to 1977–1996.

Artistry and Status:
Creating pierced porcelain requires exceptional craftsmanship, as the openwork design mimics delicate wicker basketry to showcase the artisan's mastery. Such pieces were highly prized luxury items meant to be displayed prominently in display cabinets or hung as wall decor.

The Fruit and Dessert Tradition:
In grand dining service, these platters traditionally functioned as elegant fruit baskets. The open lattice border provided essential ventilation to keep fresh fruits crisp and dry, allowing any remaining droplets of water from washing to drain freely, ensuring the fruit never sat in moisture on the table.

Condition:
Excellent vintage condition, coming from a private showcase collection.
