Two gilded bronze wall appliques from the early 19th century (1800–1850) in the Neoclassical style, each with a serene winged infant face, measuring 25 cm high, 20 cm wide, 10 cm deep and weighing about 3 kg total, crafted in France and described in good used condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
They are two gilded-bronze mythological wall appliques that condense the solemn elegance and ornamental refinement of the first half of the 19th century, fully aligned with the Neoclassical style that dominated French decorative sculpture of the era. Each figure, conceived as a small autonomous relief, features a serene, childlike, winged face with curly hair, evoking both the protective spirits of Antiquity and the classical putti reinterpreted by 19th-century academicism.
The gilded bronze, applied with a uniform, warm layer, enhances the depth of the reliefs and lends that velvety shine characteristic of high-quality pieces. The patina, clean and homogeneous, confirms the excellent condition, allowing appreciation of the precision of the modeling: the wings, finely textured; the scrolls descending from the bust; the stylized leaves that complete the composition. All respond to an ornamental language that seeks balance, symmetry, and nobility.
As wall appliqués, these figures did more than decorate; they acted as architectural accents, integrating into boiseries, mirrors, furniture, or panels. Their notable weight and sculptural presence indicate they were designed for distinguished interiors, where classical iconography functioned as a symbol of culture, order, and beauty.
Altogether, they are two pieces that represent the maturity of French Neoclassicism: purified mythology, impeccable craftsmanship, and a gilding that turns every detail into a small gleam of solemnity.
