Larimar is a stone that comes from the Dominican Republic, of volcanic origin. It is also known as blue pectolite, green and blue with white inclusions and sometimes red or brown. Discovered by Father Miguel F. Loren in 1916, its color owes to a strong presence of copper in the stone. Some reddish filaments are caused by the very blooming of copper oxide. The deposits, of volcanic origin, are generally found near coastal shores. For this reason, it was believed the mineral came from the sea. On the contrary, the stones are carried by the current of high-mountain rivers, which contribute to their natural cleansing.
