Cecile de Bruijn, Untitled, hand-signed, in good condition, 75 cm high by 55 cm wide, depicting plants and flowers, origin Netherlands, modern style, sold by Galerie, limited edition, from 1990 to 2000, produced as a silkscreen print.
Description from the seller
Cecile de Bruijn is an artist whom many hold dear. The painter born in 1950 is self-taught and has created unique, colorful, recognizable art. She has lived in France for 30 years, which is clearly reflected in these sparkling colors, the warm atmosphere, and the accessibility.
Her inspiration comes from within, and, as she herself says, she has a large and vivid imagination. Stylized female figures, animals, and primitive South African and South American symbols recur frequently in her works. A number of painters, musicians and authors have influenced her work, including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Francis Bacon. From the Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani she has adopted an important characteristic: the long necks of her main figures. The southern atmosphere that appears in many of her works she has drawn, among others, from Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Also the tango music of Astor Piazzolla, the jazz tones of Keith Jarrett, and the distinctive music of Chick Corea gave her creative impulses. Her favorite author is Paul Auster, who inspired her to create LdL with one of his books, “In the Country of Last Things.”
Besides animals, birds and flowers, another major source of inspiration was her little dog Pablo. He appears in many works and is portrayed with great affection.
