The inscription "L. Suscipj Ottico Roma" refers to the famous Italian optician and photographer Lodovico Suscipj (sometimes spelled Suscipi), who was active in Rome in the 19th century.

The term "Ottico": This is Italian for optician. In the 19th century, leading opticians did not deal only with glasses but with almost all precision instruments, including telescopes, barometers, microscopes—and clocks/chronometers.

Location: His prestigious shop was located on Via del Corso (usually number 182 or 151, depending on the period) in the heart of Rome. This was the street of shops for the well-to-do bourgeoisie and the aristocracy.
