Ugo Nespolo is an Italian artist, painter, sculptor, filmmaker and writer. He lives and works in Turin. His artistic career began in the 1960s. During this period he was inspired by the rising Pop Art, as well as by conceptual art, Arte Povera and Fluxus. During a trip to the United States in 1967 he came to know these innovative art movements up close. In the following decades he also spent extended periods in America, especially during the 1980s. Irony and a playful form of provocation became important characteristics of his oeuvre and are still recognizable in his work. Today Ugo Nespolo is regarded as one of the leading representatives of postwar Italian art. He has had many exhibitions.
