The structure features a classic “box” profile, characterized by a skillful alternation of volumes and mouldings that taper inward to confer depth and prominence to the work housed inside.
Decorative Details and Craftsmanship
External and Internal Edges: Relief-decorated with ornamental acanthus and foliate motifs in a classical taste, finished with gilding that enhances the carved details.
Centre Band (Grove): Darkened, punch-marked finish with warm veins that create splendid play of light and tonal contrasts with the brighter parts of the gilding.
Back and Beading: The back shows the original woodwork and preserves the era’s metal nails inserted into the inner beading, historically used to fix the canvas or mirror.
