Description from the seller
They are Regency-era 19th-century candelabra, signed by Barker Ellis, one of Britain's most renowned workshops for fine metalwork and for the quality of its lighting and dining pieces. Here the Regency design expresses that characteristic mix of aristocratic sobriety and restrained ornamental detail, where every curve and every relief seems devised to balance elegance and functionality.
The body of the candelabrum, made in bronze or silvered metal according to the firm’s tradition, features a circular base with a braided edge—an motif very typical of the English aesthetic during the transition from late Georgian to Regency. The shaft rises with clean lines, soft finishes, and perfectly measured proportions, culminating in the candle socket, solid and clearly defined. Connected to the arm is the snuffer, a small metal cone suspended by a fine rod, which adds a ceremonial touch and recalls the everyday use of these pieces before electrification.
The patina, warm and honest, reveals the passage of time without diminishing nobility. Barker Ellis worked to a standard of quality that is evident in the precision of the reliefs, the harmony of the forms, and the sense of a well-made object designed to last for generations.
It is a piece that embodies English distinction, high-level craftsmanship, and the functional beauty of the Regency. An object that illuminates, decorates, and tells a story.
Certified shipping and careful packaging.
