BIOGRAPHY OF RAMÓN DE CAPMANY I DE MONTANER (1899-1992)
Ramón de Capmany i de Montaner, painter, engraver, and bibliophile of the Llotja school, aligned with the Evolutionists group of the 1920s. Born in Canet de Mar in 1899, Capmany studied at Llotja with Francesc Labarta and regularly exhibited at the Parés Gallery, although he also gained international notoriety for exhibitions such as the Travelling Exhibition (New York, 1926). He particularly cultivated landscapes (especially of old Barcelona and Montseny) in a style influenced by naturalism and characterized by his attention to detail and his fine brushwork; he also painted street scenes and portraits. His work as an engraver and illustrator for bibliophile editions was also highly regarded. The Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona has some of his works in its collection. In 1964 he inherited the title of Marquis del Valle e Canet, which he ceded to his eldest son.
