Biography:
Kobalt, born in Paris in 1970, embodies the career of a polymath artist whose creativity has unfolded from electronic music to contemporary graphic art. Hailing from a family where art was already present through his father, a draftsman, Kobalt discovered his first passion at a very young age: music production. This passion guided him in his youth, and his early talents led him to make a bold decision: to invest the money intended to fund his higher studies into creating his first album.
Distributed by EMI, the album did not achieve the expected success, but it marked the beginning of a rich artistic career full of experimentation.
Alongside his musical career, Kobalt joined the advertising world as a copywriter for the iconic Playboy magazine. For many years, he dedicated his creativity to the publication, crafting and producing the magazine’s advertising campaigns.
The turning point in his career came in 2005 when he became a cameraman, exploring a new facet of the visual world. In 2007, he discovered a passion for photography, adding another artistic string to his bow. In 2010, he successfully founded his own photography agency, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit.
In 2017, Kobalt made a radical choice to sell his agency in order to fully embrace graphic art, influenced by his son, who had become a major figure in global street art. A pioneer of computer-assisted artistic creation, Kobalt stands out with nearly 3,000 works sold in galleries and online to date.
His artistic approach is marked by bold use of humor, provocation, and anachronisms, with a particular penchant for reappropriating magazine covers, a style that makes him instantly recognizable.
Despite the digital era, Kobalt has chosen to stay off social media, preserving a certain privacy. Today, he uses all available digital tools to bring his creations to life, continuing to push the boundaries of artistic expression with a subtle blend of inspiration, innovation, and humor.
Influences: Pop Art | Comic Art | Vintage Advertising | Street Art | Retro Poster | Science Fiction | Space Art | DC Comics | Collectible Artwork | Warhol | Lichtenstein | Banksy | Obey | Magritte | Basquiat
