This coin is officially certified on the holder as a "MINT ERROR - Struck Thru Obverse".
This mechanical error occurred at the mint in 1909, when a foreign object (such as grease, a metal scrap, or cloth debris) got caught between the die and the silver planchet during striking. This left a distinct, indented impression on the obverse over the historic portraits of Frederick the Quarrelsome and Frederick Augustus III.
