Description from the seller
British Glass Match Striker with Sterling Silver Mount – Birmingham, circa 1916
An elegant and increasingly sought-after British glass match striker dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1916. The piece is formed in clear ribbed glass with an attractive twin-handled design, retaining its original sterling silver mounted rim, hallmarked for the Birmingham Assay Office, together with the maker's initials LS.
Originally intended for striking and storing matches beside the hearth or on a gentleman's desk, this example perfectly illustrates the refined craftsmanship applied to even the most functional household objects of the early 20th century. The crisp optic ribbing, balanced proportions and quality silver mount combine to create an object that is both practical in origin and highly decorative today.
A desirable collector's piece of British silver-mounted glass, offered in good antique condition with light age-related wear consistent with over a century of careful use. A charming addition to any collection of antique silver, glass, tobacciana or decorative objects.
