Description from the seller

Depicting mounted warriors, this particularly beautiful bronze sculpture from our personal collection comes from the Kotoko people of Chad. These sculptures were intended to serve as commemorative offerings.

Mounted by two armed riders — spears and shield — the stylized horse is clad in a richly ornate attire. Made in heavy cast iron for its size, this beautiful Lost-Wax sculpture is richly patinated and shows significant oxidation. While typical examples of this form are rather small (between 5 and 7.6 cm in height), this version is exceptionally large and detailed. Despite some minor casting imperfections, the piece is in very good overall condition and makes a striking display item.
