Maud en Liesje is a 1926 Dutch aquarel with an underlying drawing by Ko Cossaar, executed in a classical style and sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
This watercolor with an underlying drawing is by the Dutch artist Ko Cossaar. Originally Cossaar worked as a decorative painter, but he later developed into a versatile painter with a broad oeuvre.
During his eight-year stay in England he painted in an Impressionist style urban and harbour views in London, as well as landscapes along the coast of Yorkshire. Thanks to a contract with the London art dealership Goupil, which had access to all that Cossaar painted, much of his early work still resides in museums and private collections in England. His work is also found in collections including the Drents Museum in Assen, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht.
In the Netherlands, Cossaar became best known for his church interiors and exteriors. He painted, among others, the great churches of France, Italy and England. This work provides a more personal and intimate example within his oeuvre: a portrait of his wife.
Dimensions: 44 x 35 cm
Dimensions with frame: 55 x 46 cm
Lower left signed and dated
Viewing is of course possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th jubilee year. We also work with conservators from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be glad to hear from you.
