Icon - Nicholas the Wonderworker - Wood

Ancient Orthodox icon depicting Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker (Saint Nicholas of Myra), one of the most venerated saints in the Eastern Christian tradition. The saint is shown frontally in episcopal vestments, with a benedictory gesture and a decorated Gospel.

At the sides of the head are the traditional small figures of Christ and the Mother of God within clouds, iconography typical of canonical representations of Saint Nicholas in Russian painting.

Technique: egg tempera on a wooden panel with gesso preparation (levkas). A devotional Russian production from the second half of the 19th century.

The icon shows evident signs of age: abrasions, color loss, widespread craquelure, and edge wear. Despite this, the saint's face retains good legibility and a strong expressive presence.
