Description from the seller
Authentic massive solid copper cauldron of Italian artisanal production, dateable to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Made with the classic form slightly tapered at the center and rolled rim, it preserves the sturdy original iron handle with side supports riveted on. The surface still shows the characteristic concentric turning marks, indicative of the traditional lathe work of the tinners of the era.
According to the history passed down by the previous owners, the cauldron was used in a Lombard farmhouse as far back as the 19th century, hung over the fireplace and primarily intended for preparing polenta and other rural kitchen dishes. It was purchased by my family over sixty years ago and since then has always been preserved as a decorative accessory.
The item presents in good overall condition, with the natural patina of time, normal signs of use and light oxidations compatible with age. No significant structural deformities are present.
I have deliberately chosen not to polish it, preferring to preserve its authenticity and original patina. The future owner will decide whether to keep it as is or restore the copper to its original brightness.
This is an object that combines historical value, artisanal quality and a strong decorative impact, ideal for both collectors of antique utensils and to furnish rustic environments, taverns or country homes.
Material
Solid copper
Handle and arch in iron
Side supports in brass/brass alloy
Dimensions
Diameter: about 30 cm
Height: about 23 cm
Conditions
Good overall condition, with normal signs of time and use.
The photographs constitute an integral part of the description.
