Description from the seller
Rare liquor bottle / Carafe Art Nouveau Jugendstil - WMF - c. 1905 (24 cm)
Rare and refined liquor bottle or serving decanter in perfect Art Nouveau / Jugendstil style, produced by the renowned German manufactory WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) around 1905. The design stands out for the extraordinary elegance of the organic lines, in complete harmony with the contemporaneous sculptural production of the manufactory. The conical body is made in the variant with transparent (white) original glass, elegantly mounted in the refined pewter mount plated in silver. The splendid open and pierced base is adorned on both sides with the relief of the profile of a girl/nymph with long, sinuous hair and floral details typical of the Liberty style. This specific variant features an open neck with its removable original metal stopper, topped by the characteristic perforated knob. The elegant whip-like handle completes the slender line of the piece.
Excellent overall vintage condition. Solid metal construction. The internal transparent glass is completely intact, clean, free of chips, cracks, or structural flaws even at the base and contact points. The original stopper bears the plating stamp and fits correctly into the bottle neck. The piece retains its beautiful original patina of the time.
Stamps on the base: Official WMF factory mark with the famous "Ostrich" in the shield (period 1903-1910), the letter "B" (Britannia Metal), stamp "I/O" (normal thickness of the silver plating) and "as" (Antique Silver finish, the original darkening in the recessed decoration). The bottom of the stopper bears the coherent stamp "I/O" as well.
Note for collectors: In this same auction session there is a second WMF lot from the same stylistic series: the monumental Claret carafe with emerald green glass body (height 42 cm, weight 1626 g) and hinged lid. An exceptional opportunity to acquire two splendid variants in coordinated dimensions and colors.
