Description from the seller

Extraordinary and very rare series of 22 heliogravures printed front and back in extremely high quality; the images are 16 x 23 on cardboard 36 x 27. An extremely important work by André Kertész (1884-1985). The scans used for the auction were made in black and white, the heliogravures have a slightly warmer tone.

André Kertész (1894–1985) was one of the most important photographers of the 20th century and a pioneer of modern photography. Born in Budapest, he began photographing as a self-taught photographer in 1912. After documenting the life of soldiers during World War I, in 1925 he moved to Paris, where he came into contact with the artistic avant-gardes and created some of his most famous works, characterized by innovative compositions and a deep sensitivity to everyday life. In 1936 he settled in New York City, where he worked for major magazines and continued his photographic research. Today he is regarded as a master of street photography and photojournalism, able to influence generations of photographers with his poetic and spontaneous style.
